Laura began at the Gulu as a waitress in graduate school recovering from her 10 years working in publishing. She immediately became at home and then the Gulu took over. Her husband and daughter are very forgiving -- you can spot them around the cafe from time to time. Make sure to say hi when you see her! She'd love to hear what you think. |
|||||||||||||||||
Jess got her Gulu start last year and has been kicking butt and taking names ever since. You may not notice her because she's hidden away from everyone in the kitchen, but she's friendly and you should say hi. Jess can usually be found enjoying a good book and a good beer on the patio in the summer or writing a paper while curled up on the a couch in the winter. |

Alex has just recently joined the staff here at Gulu as a dish washer! He is 16 and has lived in Salem all his life. He is currently going into sophomore year in high school at the Clark School in Danvers and aspires to further a professional/personal interest in artistic gas welding. He lives in Salem with his family right here in the heart of downtown just around the corner from Gulu-Gulu Cafe itself. Though he may seem quiet he is most certainly not bored, as he has a constant tendency to think to himself. He says he likes to think about things within the wide and broad plain of philosophy and sometimes metaphysics. His other hobbies include cooking, photography, and wire sculpture. Quote: " life is a series of paradoxes, don't try to make sense of it." |

Manda lives in Salem. Currently attending Salem State College, she is a science geek. She loves going to shows and adding new CD's to her collection. Her favorite color is green and she has a passionate hatred for cheese. She may not smile, but that is usually because she is thinking about what to do next. Mornings are not a favorite, but she takes what is dealt to her. Her dry humor is her favorite personal quality. Sarcasm: Not to be taken personally, is a daily quest to discover the humor in everyone. |

Benjamin Charbonneau is a hybrid spawn compromised of thick Western Mass mountain air, tree bark and Salem sidewalk grime. It is said that seeing him outside of work is just as rare as seeing a Yeti. But don't let that scare you, he's only prone to biting if you try and talk to him while he's wearing his massive set of headphones. His favorite activities include embracing trees, snapping shots of nature, and visiting his fellow mythological creature companions. However, tying his shoes to tightly and cars who don't use their blinker do leave a bad taste in his mouth. |

Brandon Wieber enjoys reading books, attempting to stare at the sun and resting near trees. He has discovered that writing while walking is very difficult, but he will soon master and pen many a story on foot, attemping not to crash into poles and trees. He enjoys an interesting range of music, with classical pieces being followed up by hip-hop. Thinking is his trade, prescribed by nature, and if you have a thought on anything do not merely feel free to ask him, feel compelled! |

Cortney is a tree-huggin' Environmental Biology major at Salem State. Traveling is one of her favorite things EVER, having gone to Indonesia, Ireland and Ecuador in the past year and a half (all trips were related to being an eco-nerd, mind you). She also likes things such as video games, things that smell nice, recycling, cute things and beer. She's been here since September, having previously worked at Salem Beerworks. If you have questions about a good brew, she's a good one to ask. |

Danny grew up in Lynn, MA to great acclaim. He defeated the giants there and took a really long shower. Legend has it, after shedding his skin in Amherst, he endorsed bad art and squishy tofu to fund a secret plan to conquer the espresso machine. He plots somewhere in Salem.

The newbie at the Gulu, Janie may be one of the few people around who think America's Funniest Home Videos is actually funny. Although she does have a vendetta against whomever picks the three finalists. A self-professed movie nerd, she knows every line to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and her secret wish is to be Judge Doom for Halloween. Stop by in October to see if her wish ever gets fulfilled. |

Jeff was born,or crawled out of the ground, somewhere in Lynn,MA. Now-a-days, he hangs out here, at Gulu, because it is his new home! Some say that if the stars are in their propper order on any given night, Jeff will be keeping you supplied with food, libations and happiness. |

Julie is a Marine Bio Major at Salem State College. She grew up in North Andover with an amazing family that inspired her in many ways. KatieServer Originally from Ohio, Katie is studying textiles and art teacher education at Mass Art. Give her a minute, and you'll be lucky enough to be delighted by her wit & quirky sense of humor. Kirsty loves life. Always. She loves to travel, laugh, and play with puppies … and cats. So she’s one of THOSE people who cannot make decisions like whether she’s a cat or dog person, which consequentially makes her a simple lover of all things. She was in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica for the past two years, which taught her to appreciate, well … everything. This is why she is studying art with the hopes of one day being an art therapist, but knows that as long as she is working with people. |

My name is Kristy Jane Harris. I recently moved here from San Diego. My favorite animal is the Mermicorn. It is a very neat hybrid of half unicorn half mermaid. I think it came from Scotland. If I had one, it would make for a very nice commute to school at Salem State, where I major in looking at neat pictures, and then I would ride it to work at the Gulu. I would also ride it to the mental institution I volunteer at. My favorite man there is a tall, lanky black fellow named Ally May, he has one eye, and has been pregnant for thirty-seven years. I’d also ride my mythical beast to watch my favorite band, N.I.T.E. (Nuclear Intimidation Terror Enforcers) from Lynn. They are DynOmite! Outta Sight! They’re Hip! Maybe after their show I’d take my mermiCOOL creature for a visit to Caliphornia, (the patients at the institution informed me, this is the proper spelling) but I’m pretty sure that it sunk into the ocean after I left! I really like to meet new people and make new friends, I have all five seasons of In Living Color,… so I feel like I have a lot to offer! Come visit me any time! |

I am Laurenzo!!! I recently moved back up from my year-long vacation in Asheville, NC, (I missed you New England!) I play instruments and would like to seranade you with my vulgar, cheap, four-chord songs some time! I think I'm pretty cool. I like being homeless, and hobos and aquatic dinosaurs. Also, Sasquatch. |

Lili is a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady who is still mystified that she actually has a boyfriend, because that's not supposed to happen if you're a crazy cat lady. That said, her cat Loki Java Liesmith is a door-opening velociraptor extraordinaire. She is, in fact, scared of his rapidly increasing intelligence. IT JUST WON'T STOP. On a tastier note, she loves dark beers, cooking, Combos, and living inside her own personal imagination land (it's a combination of Narnia, Oz, Hogwarts, and the Marvel Universe). If she magically found herself in a room with Alton Brown, Stephen Colbert, Neil Gaiman, and Anthony Bourdain, her heart would stop out of sheer glee. You will generally see her reading books over 1000 pages, rolling dice to kick some villainous butt, or tripping over everything in sight. She also digs fixing and building computers, and fancies herself a part of the Borg Collective. She is also all-around crafty, and above all loves to design clothing. Oh, and she makes a ridiculously good cranberry-walnut pumpkin gingerbread. She might give you the recipe or a loaf of it if you ask nicely. It is magically delicious. |

I’m a robot in disguise.

Sheri is a regular hippie. She enjoys trees, being barefoot in the grass, road trips, and live music. She is crafty and makes earrings and cakes! She loves dogs and all cute things. But, she HATES being called cute. She knows this doesn't make sense. |
